Cyclist severely injured in Coquitlam hit and run incident

Dec 19 2017, 7:29 pm

Last night at around midnight, a cyclist suffered serious injuries after being involved in a collision on the Mary Hill Bypass near Kingsway Avenue.

The cyclist is a public transit bus driver and appears to have been riding eastbound on the shoulder of the road at the time of the incident. The suspect driver did not stay at the scene and fled.

Coquitlam RCMP believe a large Toyota vehicle such as a truck or SUV hit the cyclist. Investigators recovered a black plastic passenger side mirror at the scene and believe it could be from the suspect vehicle.

We are urging the driver to do the right thing by coming forward and telling us what happened. The cyclist who is seriously injured has a wife and two kids and they deserve to know how and why it happened, said Corporal Jamie Chung. The vehicle we are looking for is a larger Toyota vehicle that is missing a black passenger side mirror housing.

If you information in relation to the vehicle’s whereabouts or the collision, please contact the Coquitlam RCMP Traffic Services Section at 604-945-1550 and quote file 2014-21316. Anyone wishing to provide information anonymously can contact Crime Stoppers.

The wife of the cyclist has also pleaded for the suspect driver to come forward.
