Police arrest driver after cyclist struck in Surrey hit-and-run

Oct 10 2017, 10:17 pm

A cyclist is recovering in hospital after being struck by a vehicle in Surrey on Thanksgiving Monday.

At around 2:45 pm, Surrey RCMP were called to the 16000 block of 64th Ave. in response to the incident.

Upon their arrival, they discovered the cyclist had been thrown from his bicycle and landed in a ditch.

The driver of the vehicle who had struck the cyclist did not stop at the scene.

However, witnesses were able to supply information that led police to a Surrey home, where the suspected driver was located and taken into custody.

The cyclist suffered serious, but non-life threatening injuries.

“The investigation into this incident is presently in the early stages and still under investigation,” said RCMP Sgt. Murray Henderson. “Speed, alcohol or drugs have not been ruled out as contributing factors in this collision.”

Now, police are asking anyone who may have witnessed the collision, or observed the suspect vehicle driving either before or after the collision, to call the Surrey RCMP at 604-599-0502.
