Crews repair big hole on Highway 99 near Oak Street Bridge (PHOTOS) | Daily Hive

Remember that giant hole on Highway 99 on the northbound direction, just before the Oak Street Bridge, that caused a huge traffic backup stretching three kilometres long on August 26?

Provincial transportation crews were on hand over the last few days to repair the hole, which was determined to be a collapse in the culvert under the road. Original reports indicated that a possible sinkhole was to blame.

According to the Ministry of Transportation, crews began by de-watering in order to complete a thorough inspection before installing a new pipe, filling and paving.

A new six-metre diameter pipe was installed. Concrete was then pumped into the voids between the old and new culvert – to reinforce the structures.

Officials originally stated that it would take two weeks to repair the hole and re-open all lanes.
