Rain postponed the event, but it didn’t dampen the spirits of 35,000 mountain biking fans in Whistler on Sunday.

Those fans were on hand to celebrate the 20th edition of Whistler Crankworx, gathering to see the jaw-dropping tricks from slopestyle mountain bikers in the Red Bull Joyride competition.

Originally scheduled for Saturday, the highly anticipated Red Bull Joyride event was pushed to Sunday due to torrential rain in Whistler on Friday and Saturday.

The rain relented on Sunday, allowing Sweden’s Emil Johansson to win gold with a score of 91.0, claiming his 14th Crankworx slopestyle win in the process.

ā€œIt feels amazing to walk away with a fourth win at Red Bull Joyride,” Johansson said. “It was nerve-wracking coming into today with so much rain this week that limited our practice. I’ve faced so many setbacks from injuries in the past that I was tearing up in the finish corral after the first run today. I’m over the moon with happiness.ā€

France’s Tim Bringer (88.65) won silver, while Erik Fedko (85.9) of Germany claimed bronze.

The women’s event was also won by a Swede, as Alma Wiggberg claimed back-to-back Red Bull Joyride titles in Whistler. She was the runaway winner with a score of 91.4.

ā€œIt feels incredible to win here in Whistler again,” Wiggberg said. “The course was challenging, but all the delays of practice made it way harder. But I was stoked to nail the backflip bar spin on my winning run.ā€

Robin Goomes (81.2) of New Zealand won silver, while American Shealen Reno (70.8) claimed bronze.

Born in Whistler in 2004, Crankworx has become a multi-stop international festival series with four stops in Canada (Whistler, Sugarloar Bike Park, Horseshoe Valley Resort, and Silverstar), two in New Zealand (Christchurch and Rotorua), and one in Australia (Cairns).
