For those thirsty for more savvy about the art and craft of making beer, Simon Fraser University’s just-announced craft beer certification might be worth poring over.

SFU’s Continuing Studies will be offering a Craft Beer and Brewing Essentials Certificate in late 2015. This condensed part-time program is the only one of its kind in Metro Vancouver, and is aimed at beer lovers, makers, and industry insiders who don’t want to quit their day job in order to learn more about the beer they love.

SFU says they created the curriculum for the program in partnership with input from breweries in Metro Vancouver. The courses, which are also available to take individually, are: Introduction to Brewing, Craft Beer Business Fundamentals, Ingredient Development and Fermentation, Quality Assessment of Beer, and Brewing Sciences Laboratory.

“The craft beer community is growing very quickly, creating a huge need for quality education,” says Adam Chatburn, president of the Vancouver branch of the Campaign for Real Ale Society of B.C.

The new non-credit certification program will launch in October at SFU’s Surrey campus.
