The CPKC Holiday Train rolls back into B.C. this December, bringing lights, holiday cheer, and one of Canada’s favourite music acts to a bunch of communities across the province.

The 27th edition of the beloved holiday tradition will travel across Canada and the U.S. this season to raise money, food, and awareness for local food banks.

Attendees at each CPKC Holiday Train stop in B.C. will also enjoy a free and festive concert by eight-time Juno winners, the Barenaked Ladies.

“I can’t imagine a better way to visit some of Canada’s beautiful mountain towns than by riding the CPKC Holiday Train, performing on the Holiday Train with stops in Alberta and British Columbia,” said Ed Robertson of the Barenaked Ladies (BNL) in a release. “It’s going to be a great time for a great cause.”

BNL has won eight Juno Awards, garnered two Grammy nominations, and was inducted into the Canadian Music Hall of Fame in 2018. The group has had their own Ben & Jerry’s ice cream flavour, hosted a cruise, and even participated in the first-ever “space-to-earth musical collaboration” with astronaut Chris Hadfield.

The legendary Canadian quartet has sold more than 15 million records worldwide during their over 30-year career, with smash hits including “If I Had $1,000,000,” “One Week,” “Pinch Me,” and “The Big Bang Theory Theme.”

“Every year, our railroaders take great pride in bringing the Holiday Train across our network, this year reaching even more communities for the first time,” said Keith Creel, CPKC president and CEO, in a statement. “We are thrilled to send this beautiful train filled with lights and music to spread the joy of the season, and proud to support the giving spirit of the holidays, assisting people experiencing food insecurity.”

“It’s incredible to see communities come together every year to celebrate the holidays while supporting local food banks.”

The magical train will be chugging through 23 communities in B.C. this month, including Maple Ridge, Port Moody, Pitt Meadows, and Port Coquitlam.
