Health officials in British Columbia are scheduled to give a written update on COVID-19 on Friday afternoon.

The announcement comes after BC recorded its deadliest day, with 28 virus-related deaths reported on Thursday. Officials also announced 723 new test-positive coronavirus cases, bringing the total number of recorded cases in the province to 40,060.

During a press conference, Provincial Health Officer Dr. Bonnie Henry said that broken down by health region, this equates to 135 new cases in the Vancouver Coastal Health region, 456 in the Fraser Health region, 10 in the Island Health region, 82 in the Interior Health region, and 40 in the Northern Health region.

“There will be a time when we can take off our masks when we can hug our loved ones, and travel to see friends. We will get there, but we are not through this storm yet,” noted Henry.

“So, for now, we need to stay small, stay local and help each other to push back on COVID-19.”
