Officials with Fraser Health are advising families of a Port Coquitlam high school that an individual connected with the school has now tested positive for COVID-19.

In a letter sent to parents, Fraser Health writes that the exposure took place at École Riverside Secondary school on September 18.

“Public health staff have initiated contact tracing to identify any staff and students that need to self-isolate or self-monitor for symptoms,” the letter states.

The health also authority notes that “receiving this letter does not mean you have been exposed to COVID-19.” Rather, the intent of the letter “is to share information with the school community and advise you on next steps being taken by public health.”

Earlier this month, Fraser Health announced the creation of an online resource to provide “timely and accurate information” to parents, teachers, and students about COVID-19 cases in K-12 schools in the region as they occur.

The resource also includes a COVID-19 Q&A page focused on the return to school as well as a video Q&A sharing information about COVID-19’s impact on the classroom environment.
