Fraser Health has announced a COVID-19 outbreak at a long-term care home in Burnaby.

The health authority says that a staff member at Dania Home has tested positive for coronavirus. This is the first outbreak declared in a long-term care facility since June 17.

According to Fraser Health, the staff member “worked in one contained unit” and did not work in other areas. The individual is currently in self-isolation at home, while a rapid response team is on-site and communicating with residents and families.

Additional health measures are being implemented such as restricting visitors as well as the movement of staff and residents. Cleaning and infection control is being enhanced, and residents, families, and staff are being notified.

Staff and residents will also be screened twice a day, says Fraser Health.

Dania Home is a two-storey long-term care home with 102 beds. All rooms are single occupancy.

Earlier today, BC health officials announced 50 new known cases of coronavirus.
