On June 15, the Coquitlam RCMP Rural Section was on a routine boat patrol when they were flagged down by a man in Cost Cove.

The officers were alerted of a premature baby seal pup that had been alone for over a day and was abandoned by its mother.

They took the pup to the Vancouver Aquarium Marine Mammal Rescue Centre for treatment.

“The staff there named the pup ‘Fort St. James’ and said it looks like he was premature and only a day or two old,” said Cpl. Justin Abels of Coquitlam RCMP’s Rural Section.”

“Now the staff will do their best to rehabilitate Fort St. James over the next two months before releasing him into the wild.”
