Vancouver-based Concord Pacific acquires Saskatchewan’s largest wind project

The Vancouver developer best known for building some of Canada’s largest master-planned communities is making a major expansion into renewable energy. Concord Green Energy, the renewable energy division of Concord Pacific, has acquired the Golden South Wind Project near Assiniboia, Saskatchewan.
The utility-scale facility includes 50 wind turbines with 210 megawatts of installed generation capacity and 200 megawatts of contracted capacity. It is Saskatchewan’s largest operating wind project by both turbine count and installed capacity.
Golden South began commercial operations in March 2022 and operates under a 25-year power purchase agreement with SaskPower. According to Concord, the project generates enough electricity to meet the equivalent annual needs of up to 100,000 homes.
“An important step” for Concord Green Energy
The acquisition grows Concord Green Energy’s operating renewable energy portfolio to approximately 543 megawatts across Canada.
“Golden South represents an important step in growing Concord Green Energy into a larger Canadian renewable energy business,” said Terry Hui, president and CEO of Concord Pacific Group.
“Canada is entering a period of significant investment in the power and infrastructure needed to support economic growth, and the federal government’s renewed focus on green, reliable energy creates a strong environment for long-term investment.”
Hui added that Golden South brings substantial power generation to the electricity grid immediately while giving Concord greater scale to continue investing in Canada’s renewable energy future.
Concord Green Energy is advancing renewable energy projects across the country, including wind, solar, hydroelectric generation and energy storage. Its operating portfolio and projects under development now represent more than one gigawatt of renewable energy capacity.
While Concord Pacific is most familiar to Metro Vancouver residents for communities such as Concord Pacific Place and Concord Brentwood, the company has increasingly invested in the infrastructure required to support Canada.
