“We going out tonight!” Mac Miller yelled into the mic during his performance of his popular single “Weekend.”
“Yeah we going out tonight!” The crowd yelled back at the Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, born rapper.
From the inside, it looked like the start of a rowdy Friday night at the Vogue Theatre with Mac Miller fans champing at the bit with anticipation to see their favourite rapper perform. From the outside, however, it was just a relatively quiet Sunday evening on the Granville strip. While Vancouver has always been a fan of stoner rap, local fans have been supporting the unique delivery style of Mac Miller since the beginning of his career back in 2007.
Promoting his new album, The Divine Feminine, Miller, mostly known for his turn up lyrics about partying and marijuana, takes a slight pivot on this album to focus on sex and relationships. Vibing off of the current trend in rap and hip hop by incorporating jazz and soul elements into his instrumentals, the newest LP actually has Miller singing on the majority of his tracks and was featured predominately during the show.
Sprinkling in a few hits from his previous hit album GO:OD AM, and popular mixtapes including Macadelic, the show had a well rounded feel that truly satisfied every fan in attendance.
Highlights from the show included the performances of “Dang!,” “Rush Hour,” “Loud,” and “Best Day Ever” from one of his most popular mixtapes with the same title.
Mac Miller performed at the Vogue Theatre on November 6.
