Company with 'multiple similar instances' involved in two more Metro Vancouver overpass strikes

A company known to police has been involved in two Metro Vancouver overpass strikes along Highway 1 on Thursday, according to authorities.

In a press release, Cpl. Michael McLaughlin said the overpass strike occurred on Feb. 20 at 9:17 a.m.

The initial investigation indicated that a tractor-trailer towing a large load hit the the 264 overpass and the CP Rail overpass on Highway 1 westbound near Glover Road in Langley.

McLaughlin said damage to the overpasses was minimal, but the truck’s load — a shipment of pre-formed concrete — is associated with a company “known to police.”

Daily Hive reached out to McLaughlin for more details about the company in question. He noted that the investigation is still in its early stages, no charges have been laid, and authorities have issued no enforcement.

Although the company’s name has not been released for those reasons, McLaughlin confirmed it has been “associated [with] multiple similar instances of overpass strikes.”

Photos circulating on social media show the truck pulling the load belonging to Abbotsford-based company Majha Trucking Ltd.

Daily Hive reached out to Majha Trucking regarding their alleged involvement, but the company’s owner said they had no comment.

The load on the truck is being carried by a trailer that is marked with “Chohan.”

Chohan Carriers is a company that has been involved in multiple overpass incidents in B.C.

However, it is also common practice for South Asian trucking companies to label and decorate trucks and trailers with last names that may be associated with the company’s owners or their families. Chohan is a common Punjabi last name.

Chohan Carriers told Daily Hive they were not involved in this incident.

Commercial Vehicle Safety and Enforcement (CVSE) officers have been called to investigate.

Drivers should expect delays in the area as evidence is being gathered.
