Vancouver’s Community Thrift & Vintage is bringing its stylish vintage finds and social enterprise to a new location at 11 West Hastings Street.

The store is much more than just a vintage clothing and artisanal wares shop – it also creates job opportunities for marginalized women in the Downtown Eastside.

Women from the Rainier Hotel work alongside Community Thrift & Vintage staff and gain skills they can use for further employment opportunities.

“It’s amazing and really cool to see the women gain confidence,” Elizabeth Krebs, of Community Thrift & Vintage, told Daily Hive. “You see the contribution they make and (you see) them get a sense of value.”

The new location also has a full textiles studio, where the women learn how to sew aprons and other goods, which are then sold in partnership with the Window Community Art Shop.

The Community Thrift & Vintage location at 41 West Cordova will shutter its doors next week as the new store will take over as the flagship location.
