Colour, Colour Everywhere: Colourfest Vancouver comes to town

Dec 20 2017, 1:11 am

You don’t normally get to douse friends with colours of the rainbow, but thanks to Colourfest Vancouver, you’ll have the chance this month.

Colourfest takes the spirit of the annual Indian holiday of Holi, where people sing, dance and throw colours on each other, and brings it to Vancouver’s Bhakti Yoga on Sunday, September 13. The festival looks to act as a reminder to colour our lives with love, faith and a generous spirit, to give, receive and, of course, have fun.

All ages are invited to this family friendly event in its first year with a fun and famous lineup featuring:

  • Seattle’s own Gina Sala (straight from Bhaktifest)
  • TK and Namrock
  • Govinda Gosh and GB Productions

The festival includes colours, music, vendors, food, kids events, free hugs and more, all starting at just $5.

About Holi Festival

Holi festival breathes an atmosphere of social merriment. People bury their hatchets with a warm embrace and throw their worries to the wind. Every nook and corner presents a colourful sight. Young and old alike are covered with colors (red, green, yellow, blue, black and silver). People in small groups are seen singing, dancing and throwing colors on each other.

The festival is celebrated with special importance in the north of India. It solemnizes the love of Radha and Krishna. The spraying of coloured powders recalls the love sport of Lord Krishna and His devotees.

The colour, noise and entertainment that accompany the celebration of Holi bears witness to a feeling of oneness and sense of brotherhood. The festival brings home the lesson of spiritual and social harmony!!
