Crash closes Lougheed Highway and rail overpass in Coquitlam

Eastbound commuters could face a slow-go out of Vancouver this evening.

Just after 2 pm, a truck collided with a section of the CP Rail overpass, located over the Lougheed Highway and south of the Barnet Highway.

The overpass was damaged as a result of the collision.

As a result of the incident, Coquitlam RCMP decided that the track and the highway be closed, pending a safety assessment.

The closure –which affects both directions of the Lougheed between Barnet Highway and Dewdney Trunk Road – is expected to remain in place through the evening rush hour, police said.

TransLink initially stated the West Coast Express would operate a bus bridge from Coquitlam Station for the duration of Friday evening’s rush hour, but it has since rescinded that plan and has stated that regular train service will operate as scheduled.
