FEATURED ON THE LISTED GUIDE
Improv icon, Colin Mochrie, returns to his Vancouver home, The Improv Centre on Granville Island, for three intimate performances and a night at the Vogue Theatre to bring you more laughs this May.
For Vancouver TheatreSports (VTS), Colin is more than just a legendary comedian: He’s family. VTS is where Colin first learned about improv. The Whose Line Is It Anyway? star and author of Not Quite the Classics, has been improvising with Jay Ono, VTS’s Executive Director since the 80s.
Ono has said: “He is truly one of the most gifted, generous improvisers I’ve ever seen. Colin makes everyone around him look good.” This may be why going to see Colin perform is so endearing. Instead of just going to see a celebrity, you can spend the evening laughing like you were with old friends.
On May 24, Vancouver TheaterSports brings you Colin, Up Close and Personal. This first performance includes two improv sets with Colin playing alongside members of the VTS ensemble, followed by a Q&A session – where you’ll get to ask questions. As an added bonus, there are a limited number of tickets (20) available for an exclusive, post-performance reception where guests can meet Colin in the Improv Centre’s Neil Macrae Bar & Lounge.
The next show on May 25, The Colin Mochrie Experience, sees Colin at the Vogue Theatre where the improv icon will once again take the stage with your favourite VTS players for a night of absolute hilarity.
Colin returns to The Improv Centre on Granville Island for two more shows on May 26; Colin and Friends, at 7:30 and 9:30 pm. These shows feature the VTS players alongside Colin for even more laughs. This intimate setting is a great way to see the improv icon in action and enjoy a night out, but you’re going to want to get your tickets quick, as the 7:30 pm. show is almost sold out!
Need more reasons to love Mochrie?
All performances with Colin will benefit the Colin Mochrie Scholarship Fund at VTS’s theatre school, The Improv Comedy Institute. Established in 2014, the scholarship provides assistance to those wishing to study improv but are unable to do so because of financial barriers.
If you’re a fan of Whose Line, a certain R.S. may join Colin on stage, he’s been known to show up unexpectedly (most recently at Vancouver TheatreSports Throwdown Festival in January).
