Colby Morgan and the Catastrophes release a new album

The new album from Colby Morgan and the Catastrophes is a lot of things but a disaster certainly isn’t one of them.

This is the fourth offering from the Maple Ridge-based folk outfit fronted by Colby Morgan (an idiosyncratic student of Dylan who describes himself as “pro-pie but not anti-cake”) and featuring a gang of ever-rotating musicians. Full of thoughtful musings on the world and lovely melodies, the record leans into the contemplative guitar strumming of Neil Young while still maintaining a West Coast edge. Deep cuts like “I Don’t Know Why” are easy classics with heart-wrenching riffs and soulful vocals, running nicely into humble anthems (“Eat You Alive”) and good ol’ rock and rollers (“Oregon” and “Roman Candle (You Turn Me On)”) that would pair best cruising along the highway with all the windows down.

Have a look at the music for the first single, “Eat You Alive,” below.
