Vancouver catering company launches take-home holiday dinner boxes

With the festive season now in full swing, the countdown to the ultimate feast of the year is on. And although things are a little different this time around, the culinary experts at Cocktails and Canapes are alleviating the stress of cooking at home for locals.

The chef-driven catering company has launched its take-home Christmas dinner boxes, which are now available to order. If you’re starting to worry about preparing a holiday dinner this year — don’t. Cocktails and Canapes has everything covered.

Holiday traditions are something we look forward to each year, and that applies to the food on our plates, too. Cocktails and Canapes is preparing the items we know and love from scratch — with a contemporary edge (think sous-vide roasted turkey).

A feast for six (or double-helpings for a group of three), the Family Christmas Dinner box includes free-range organic turkey breast, eight festive side dishes (like savoury bread stuffing and brown butter roasted yams), and fresh brioche, complete with simple heating instructions. Best of all, all items have been designed to be reheated and plated, so it’ll look as good on your table as it would at a restaurant.

If that doesn’t sound like your jam, there’s also the option to order a free-range whole roasted turkey ($300). This entire bird is sous-vide, meaning it’s extra juicy and flavourful. Plus, it comes with garlic whipped potatoes, aromatic gravy, and maple bacon Brussels sprouts.

Planning dinner for just two people? You can opt for the Intimate Christmas Dinner box ($120) and still have plenty of leftovers.

All boxes are available to order until December 18, with pickup or delivery on December 23.

Cocktails and Canapes is also delivering meal boxes to companies, each of which includes a custom menu with heating instructions — and a bottle of wine or craft cocktails to pair with the food.

Although Christmas parties and holiday events are postponed, these multi-course dinners are a great way for local businesses to reward their staff safely, whether they’re working in the office at a limited capacity or working from home.

Another option is to order takeout from the city’s newest pop-up restaurant, Commissary Comfort. Launched on DoorDash by Cocktails and Canapes, it’s located just outside of Gastown in the company’s commissary space.

The menu changes every week, featuring six to eight items at a time. “Each dish will be made from scratch using locally-sourced ingredients and really what we felt like cooking,” Jason Harper, Director of Culinary and Operations at Cocktails and Canapes, tells Daily Hive. Dishes are reasonably priced, too, ranging from $10 to $18.

Cocktails and Canapes and Commissary Comfort, Harper says, are taking all of the necessary precautions around COVID-19, including the frequent sanitization of work surfaces.

“We have a COVID safety plan where all staff are logged and temperature is recorded upon arrival and departure. Masks are worn at all times in the kitchen and hand washing is mandatory (that has never changed).”

The company also has a designated area for delivery drivers to pick up orders, so this process doesn’t interfere with social distancing measures. As a result, customers can rest assured that their orders are being processed carefully.

If you’re looking for a way to support local while eliminating the pressure of cooking over a hot stove this season, order your Christmas dinner box or turkey dinner now at cocktailsandcanapes.ca. Bon appétit!
