Our very own Vancouver actress Cobie Smulders of ‘How I Met Your Mother’ fame has revealed her battle with ovarian cancer.

Smulders, also known as Robin Scherbatsky on the long-running sitcom, is opening up in Women’s Health magazine’s May issue about her ovarian cancer diagnosis during season three of ‘How I Met Your Mother’.

“I had tumors on both ovaries,” the 33-year-old told the magazine, “and the cancer had spread into my lymph nodes and surrounding tissues.”

Smulders underwent several surgeries to keep the cancer at bay during the run of the show. She was only 25 when diagnosed.

“I don’t think I’ll ever feel like I’m cancer-free. Now that I’m five years out, I’m trying to think of it as a positive thing and what can I learn from it. And if I can create more awareness, I’ll do it.,” she says.

Ovarian cancer claimed the lives of 14,000 women in Canada last year and is one of the most deadly forms of cancer.

Smulders appears on the cover of Women’s Health this month, posing topless. She is now one of the stars Avengers: Age of Ultron and also starred in the short-running series ‘Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.’
