This weekend, from Friday, February 20 to Sunday, February 22, Winterruption, presented by Coastal Jazz, makes its way to Performance Works on Granville Island.
Winterruption, which has been in existence for a decade, gives Vancouverites and visitors to the city a break from the cold winter for a burst of colourful art, music and dance.
This year’s focuses on art, and the festival has gone bigger than ever! Spot Giants, the largest outdoor mural ever created by Brazilian artists OSGEMEOS on Ocean Concrete’s six giant silos or watch the intriguing story of these and other artists in the documentary film “Grey City.”
On Friday, The Ballantynes will perform live with special guests Miss Quincy and the Showdown. The Ballantynes are dance floor magnets and party starters who have hit the stage at various festivals including Squamish and Rifflandia. This is must-see Motown-inspired Northern Soul. Miss Quincy and the Showdown, the trusty all-girl group at the ready, will sure to be a dynamic mix with The Ballantynes!
Then on Saturday, Willa performs with a voice that carries memories, vulnerabilities, pain, sadness, happiness and freedom.
Performance Works shows will take place throughout the day on Saturday and Sunday, and is free for all ages. Celso Machado and Joel Harrison are a few artists that will be offering free performances on both days.
