Vancouver Police investigating Coal Harbour shooting

DH Vancouver Staff Mar 11, 2014 8:14 am

Vancouver Police are investigating after two men were shot on West Cordova Street near Thurlow around 10:30 on Monday evening. The Coal Harbour shooting is a rarity in what is normally a sleepy part of the downtown core.

Both men were rushed to hospital with “serious injuries.” Since then, one of the men (29-year-old Tejinder Singh Malli from Richmond) has died while the other (28-year-old from North Vancouver) remains in hospital and is in stable condition.

Detectives from the Vancouver Police Major Crime Section responded to the scene. Cordova Street between Burrard and Bute remains closed this morning.

The victims are known to police, are associated to gangs and are connected to the drug trade. It is still early in the investigation, but the murder does appear to be targeted.

Anyone with information who has not yet spoken to police is asked to contact the VPD Major Crime Section at (604) 717-2500 or Crime Stoppers at 1 (800) 222-8477. VPD is asking anyone who may have witnessed the shooting or has information to call police in order to help investigators.
