If you’re looking to pay it forward, donating to the CKNW Orphans’ Fund might be one of the greatest gifts you could give.

The CKNW Orphans’ Fund is a lifeline for families with extraordinary care needs. In 2016, people’s donations ensured that the fund was able to meet the grant requests of over 240 individual children while supporting 56 community programs. And now, the fund needs your help to continue helping children and families.

One example of an Orphans’ Fund success story involved a mom named Shanna. She and her son, Daleel, were spending long amounts of time in the hospital for the purpose of treatment for his hip dysplasia at just 15 months old.

The worry and stress of having your child under anesthetic is exhausting. It takes a lot of energy to push away thoughts of the worst happening. Sadly, these emotions have been commonplace for Shanna since Daleel was born. Shortly after birth Daleel was diagnosed with CHARGE syndrome. The serious and rare genetic condition affects Daleel’s sight, hearing, and causes mobility problems. Shanna has been warned it will result in multiple surgeries and hospital stays.

The mother of four tries to be optimistic of Daleel’s future and the family is working together to tackle the syndrome head on. Days are filled with hospital visits, specialist appointments and physiotherapists in the hopes that Daleel will be able to hold up his own head, sit, stand, crawl, or walk independently. Daleel and his family need more people on their team to overcome these challenges and this is where CKNW Orphans’ Fund and you can help.

Your donations can help Daleel and children like him to access the equipment, therapies, and programs crucial to their development.

By becoming a monthly donor families are more able to provide continuous support for their children. You can easily donate online at – donations over $20.00 will receive a tax receipt.
