In Vancouver, there’s nothing quite like cooling off on a patio with a drink as the summer day turns from sweltering hot to blissfully balmy.
Well, today there was good news for patio lovers as the City of Vancouver has just announced that they will continue to allow select restaurant patios to stay open until 1 a.m. throughout the summer.
The two-hour extension from the original 11 p.m. curfew was first implemented in 2013, where licensed businesses were eligible to apply to stretch out their hours during the warmer months of April to October. Following the hugely positive response this has received over the last couple of years, as well as a low number of noise complaints that have been filed, the City will carry the extension through the season.
After this year, the City will consider if they should approve it permanently.
As of 2015, there were close to 575 large and small patios eligible for the extension. Businesses may apply online here.
