Cirque du Soleil to celebrate 30th birthday with free public performances, giveaways & fireworks

Cirque du Soleil will be celebrating its 30th Anniversary in style in Vancouver on Monday, June 16 with a fun-filled day of birthday festivities.

The Quebec-based arts organization will be treating Vancouverites to free cupcakes and popcorn, surprise ticket giveaways and a mesmerizing short pop-up performance. Mayor Gregor Robertson will also be on hand for a special announcement, proclaiming June 16 Cirque du Soleil Day in Vancouver. Additionally, a special fireworks show will be held at the Plaza of Nations on June 21.

The anniversary celebration will kick off at 8:00 a.m. on June 16 at the Pacific Centre Plaza on the corner of West Georgia Street and Howe Street. The public is invited and encouraged to join in on the celebrations!

The celebrations run in conjunction with Cirque du Soleil’s Vancouver run of TOTEM which is playing at Concord Pacific Place through July 6, 2014.

Cirque du Soleil Events on Monday, June 16

Free Cupcakes

  • 8:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. – Pacific Centre Plaza at West Georgia and Howe Streets: Cirque du Soleil representatives will be surprising crowds of morning commuters by handing out delicious, celebratory cupcakes while local circus school, Circus West, delights them with tricks, stunts and more!

Mayoral Proclamation by Gregor Robertson and free pop-up performance

  • 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. – Pacific Centre Plaza at West Georgia and Howe Streets:
    • Mayor Gregor Robertson will issue a proclamation at 12:30 p.m announcing June 16th as ‘Cirque du Soleil Day’ in the City of Vancouver, recognizing the organization for their contribution to the local arts and culture.
    • Following the proclamation, the public and media will be treated to a special free performance by Cirque du Soleil TOTEM artists featuring the Hoop Dance and a number of characters from the show.
    • Blue and yellow helium balloons will be distributed widely; each attached with a mystery envelope that will contain free tickets to the show or special discounted ticket offers!
    • Local circus school, Circus West returns to entertain onlookers with tricks and stunts.

Free Cirque du Soleil popcorn

  • 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. – Pacific Centre Plaza at West Georgia and Howe Streets:
    • Vancouverites will be treated to tasty, complimentary popcorn in Cirque du Soleil’s classic blue and yellow boxes and Circus West returns again to delight spectators!

Free Fireworks Show on Saturday, June 21

To thank Vancouverites for their support, Cirque du Soleil will be hosting a free, stunning fireworks display on Saturday, June 21 after the 8 p.m. performance of TOTEM.

The fireworks show will take place at approximately 10:30 p.m. at the Plaza of Nations in False Creek.

TOTEM Anniversary Performances – All seats for $30 on select dates

In celebration of its 30th anniversary, Cirque du Soleil has added three performances to its Vancouver run of TOTEM where all seats will be reduced to $30.

The additional $30 show dates include Thursday June 19 that 4:30 p.m., Thursday June 26 at 4:30 p.m. and Friday June 27 at 4:30 p.m. For tickets and more information about this special offer, visit Quantities are limited.
