James Cameron and Cirque du Soleil President/CEO Daniel Lamarre announced this morning that the two are teaming up to produce a live, global touring show based on Cameron’s smash 2009 hit, Avatar.

The announcement was made this morning at the C2MTL-Commerce and Creativity Conference in Montreal.

The tour is expected to debut in late 2015 before James Cameron’s first of many Avatar sequels hits the screens in December 2016. Twentieth Century Fox, who finances and distributes the Avatar films, will also be a partner in what is sure to be one of the biggest Cirque shows to date.

Cameron has said the relationship between the two groups have been going on for several years and discussions about the live show has been in talks for a long time.

Vancouver has played host to many Cirque shows in the past and this event would be a very welcomed attraction to the city’s nightlife.
