This year marks the 8th annual Christmas Tree lighting ceremony to take place in Vancouver, and the event is slated to be bigger than ever.

Kids Help Phone will be presenting this event, in partnership with Shaw Communications, Global BC and Amacon, the founder of the Vancouver Tree Lighting Celebration.

“Light the Way for Kids” is a charitable holiday tree lighting event that supports Kids Help Phone’s initiatives to improve the mental well-being of children and youth. Funds raised through this Vancouver tree lighting celebration help to ensure that Kids Help Phone can continue to be their for the nearly 800,000 young people in British Columbia who may be in need of their professional, anonymous, and confidential counselling services.

In its first year in support of Kids Help Phone, the Light the Way for Kids’ Christmas Tree Lighting will take place on Friday, December 5 at Jack Poole Plaza in the heart of downtown Vancouver. The tree lighting event is a family friendly event that helps mark the start of the Christmas season in Vancouver while also raising funds for a worthy cause.

The 50-foot, Rockefeller-style Christmas tree will make its way to Jack Poole Plaza two days before the event and will remain on site until the first week of January 2015. The tree weighs in at 7,961lbs and is covered with 64,700 bright bulbs.
