RCMP made a shocking discovery on Wednesday afternoon when they found a child’s body in the trunk of a South Surrey vehicle.

Mounties were called to the area in response to a minor accident, when they came across a vehicle in the ditch near 35A Avenue and Crescent Road. Upon searching the vehicle, they discover the body of an eight year-old child in the trunk.

The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT) doesn’t believe the child died in the car.

“We believe that the child was transported here. We don’t have a specific timeline on when the death occurred,” Sgt. Jennifer Pound told CTV.

UPDATE (11:35 a.m.): Lisa Batstone, 41, the child’s mother, has been charged with second degree murder in the death of her eight-year-old daughter, Teagan.

The cause of death will be determined after the results of an autopsy later this week.
