Two children die in "tragic" Chilliwack off-road accident: RCMP

Chilliwack RCMP confirmed two children have died after the off-road vehicle they were travelling in with their family lost control and became submerged in water near Foley Lake, on Sunday.

“It is with deep sorrow, that we report that the bodies of two children have been recovered from this tragic accident,” said Sgt. Krista Vrolyk, media spokesperson for the Chilliwack RCMP, in a release.

Shortly before 1 pm on Sunday, the Chilliwack RCMP, Chilliwack Search and Rescue, BC Ambulance and Air Ambulance, and Chilliwack River Valley Fire Department were called to the scene of the accident on the Foley Creek Forest Service Road.

Two adults and one child were able to escape, but the two remaining youth passengers were unaccounted for.

“The Chilliwack RCMP would like to extend their heartfelt condolences to the family and friends of those involved in this unthinkable tragedy,” said Vrolyk.

The  BC Coroner’s Service is now investigating.
