Chi, The Spa at the Shangri-La Vancouver

I like to think that Vancouverites are savvy and collectively we have uncovered every amazing event, business and service in the city. Apparently, one got by us. Last week, I visited Chi, The Spa at the Shangri-La which has operated as one of Vancouver’s best kept secrets for the last two years.Developed by a team of experts, CHI’s signature therapies are based on the five elements theory including metal, water, wood, fire and earth. The diva in me loved that their entire treatment approach is based on the individual and there are no shared rooms or communal spaces. It is a place all about you; and as simple as that is, we all know how precious it can be.

Stepping out of the elevator, I knew my experience would be special as a full-wall water feature greeted me. After a thoughtful consultation and a briefing on the spa’s approach, I was whisked away to my gorgeous room. Each guest receives their individual suites, each with their own fireplace, private bath, shower and relaxation lounge, and changing and vanity area.

The treatment was attentive, soothing and made you feel like a million dollars. While most spa experiences end post-massage, CHI is only started. They provide a refreshing ginger tea service after your treatment, and you have the option of ordering from MARKET by Jean-Georges. They have even thought to pair your element type, with the cuisine as they call it. I was WOOD and will fully admit that I chose my element based on the menu. The WOOD element included an organic carrot veloute which a perfect pick-me-up after a sleep-inducing massage. It also came with seared Qualicum Beach Scallops with avocadoes, and free range yogurt. I can without reservation say that these were the best scallops I’ve ever had, and they have definitely been on my mind ever since. There is nothing more beautiful than a marriage between a delightful massage and some delicious food.

The small details make all the difference and the hot, scented towel upon arrival, to the ginger tea service post massage, well those were all the things that made the experience that much more heavenly. CHI brings chic to the next level. Check them out before they are booked out.
