Chapman’s newest ice cream flavour is a love letter to all things Canadian

Summer isn’t over yet, and there’s still plenty of time to enjoy a bowl, cone, or tub of ice cream while the weather is hot.

However, we Canadians are no strangers to enjoying a cold treat year-round, regardless of the weather. We also like our ice cream Canadian-owned and operated, made with Canadian dairy.

Chapman’s checks all those boxes. Owned by a Canadian family with operations out of Markdale, Ontario, Chapman’s uses only Canadian dairy in its 180+ ice cream products sold coast-to-coast. And its newest premium flavour just might be its most quintessentially Canadian yet.

The history of the butter tart

Chapman’s new Pecan Butter Tart ice cream is a celebration of Canadian cuisine and culture, transforming the classic Canadian treat into a premium ice cream experience.

The butter tart is one of the few pastries with a genuinely Canadian origin. While the first published recipe dates to 1900, its origins are believed to stem from the 800 young women sent from France to help colonize Québec in the 1600s — who had to adapt traditional European recipes to the ingredients available to them.

Today, butter tarts remain a staple in Canadian culture, and the Pecan Butter Tart ice cream pays homage to the beloved treat.
