Toronto Argonauts offensive lineman Ryan Hunter was part of a very scary incident earlier this week.
The 30-year-old, who signed an extension to remain with the Argonauts through the 2027 season back in February, was struck by a car while riding a scooter on his and his team’s first day back following a bye week according to TSN’s Matthew Scianitti.
Thankfully, Hunter didn’t receive any life-threatening injuries, though he was far from unscathed, either. He’s expected to miss significant time, as a shoulder injury sustained in the crash will keep him out of the lineup for six to eight weeks.

This is a huge blow for the Argos, who have had a rough start to the season with a 1-4 record. They are set to take on the Montreal Alouettes on Thursday night, a team that has gotten off to a 3-2 start to the 2025 season, and will be doing so without Hunter, who is the reigning CFL top lineman.
Hunter, who was born in North Bay, Ont., has been with the Argonauts since 2022. Before that, he spent time in the NFL with the Los Angeles Chargers and Kansas City Chiefs. He was on the Chiefs’ active roster when they won Super Bowl LIV against the San Francisco 49ers in 2020.
Hunter isn’t the only key member of the Argonauts who is out with injury, as quarterback Chad Kelly has yet to suit up since suffering a broken leg in last year’s East final. It isn’t all bad news for the Argos, however, as linebacker Wynton McManis and running back Deonta McMahon are set to return after missing several weeks of action.
