Vancouver’s summer heat wave returned for the final night of the 23rd annual Honda Celebration of Light with team “Fireworks Spectacular” from Canada winning top honours and wowing fireworks fans with a thrilling show on day two of the three day event narrowly beating out teams from the United Kingdom and Thailand.
“We had terrific weather for all three nights, with many coming down earlier to take in SHOREfest music series at Sunset Beach and English Bay” said Andrea Dowd-Dever, Producer of the 2013 Honda Celebration of Light, “It is wonderful to see so many people enjoying this amazing event and we can’t wait for next year.”
New for 2013 was Concord Pacific’s Seawall Challenge which took place on the first day of the event. Over 20 teams competed in a number of physical, creative and mental challenges from Concord Pacific to Sunset beach for a chance to benefit from a $5,000 donation to the school of their choice for afterschool programming and / or equipment. Team “Wolf Pack”, led by Leon He, won the competition, receiving the top prize of $1,500 cash and designated Concord Pacific’s $5,000 donation to go to Vancouver’s Chief Maquinna Elementary.
“Donations like this one, from Concord Pacific, really go a long way in making for a better school experience for everyone.” said Maquinna School’s PAC Chairperson, Anthony Wong. “We’re appreciative and definitely thankful to the winning team for considering our school.”
The Honda Celebration of Light saw over 1.2 million fans this year coming from communities across the Lower Mainland and throughout BC.
