Anita Bathe leaving CBC News Vancouver: 'This is not easy'

Mar 26 2025, 5:05 pm

Anita Bathe, a popular Vancouver CBC News host, has announced her departure from the station and, ultimately, from journalism as a whole.

In an Instagram post, Bathe explained how she came to the difficult decision.

“Gosh, this is not easy,” Bathe wrote, adding, “All I’ve known is this world.”

Bathe, the host of CBC Vancouver’s 6 p.m. newscast, has been away from the station on maternity leave for the past 18 months after giving birth to her second daughter.

“I’ve made the difficult decision not to return to CBC News.”

She added, “This also means I’m leaving journalism altogether and pursuing a new and exciting opportunity.”

Bathe doesn’t state what that next exciting opportunity may be, but she said it would allow her more balance.

Hailing from Abbotsford, B.C., Bathe has worked in all corners of the media industry, including as a community reporter for Shaw and radio stations like CKNW (street team) and News1130, eventually landing at CBC News.

“I did anything I could to get my foot in the door,” Bathe said.

In response to her post, Bathe received a flood of comments of support and celebration of her career in journalism and her run at CBC in Vancouver. The support came from fans, colleagues and other journalists in the industry.

Global News anchor Sophie Lui said, “We will miss you on the air, Anita. But I know you’ll be great at whatever comes next ❤️ Wishing you the best!

Someone else responded, “One of the best to ever do it.”

CBC Vancouver won’t be the same without you,” another person commented.

Reflecting on her career in journalism, Bathe said she feels she accomplished all her goals “and then some.”

“Thank you, British Columbians, for trusting me and letting me into your lives again and again,” she said.

“I’m so grateful for all of the adventures, adrenaline, joy and relationships.”
