DH Vancouver Staff Oct 18, 2015 5:18 pm

The force of a collision in East Vancouver during the early morning hours of Sunday was so powerful that it sent an engine flying into a nearby home.

At approximately 5 a.m. this morning, a woman driving on the northbound lane of Knight Street near 33rd Avenue lost control of her vehicle and crashed into a tree.

Firefighters had to use the jaws of life to free the 20-year-old woman, who was trapped inside the crumpled car. She was rushed to hospital in critical condition.

Fortunately, there were no injuries to anyone living in the residence that was hit by the engine, although the home was damaged.

Vancouver Police are investigating the cause of the crash.
