It seems like the Vancouver Canucks and New York Rangers are talking trade once again.
The two teams nearly completed a J.T. Miller trade on the weekend. The deal was so close to completion that the Canucks were preparing to hold their star centre out of Saturday’s game against the Edmonton Oilers.
However, the deal fell apart at the last minute, with some insiders reporting that the two sides couldn’t agree on specific conditions for a draft pick that was involved.
Miller played against the Oilers and was excellent, recording two points and helping to slow down Connor McDavid. Following the game, the noise around a trade died slightly, although it’s far from gone.
While that original deal with the Rangers didn’t get across the finish line, it seems like the two sides are back to negotiating and working on a new deal which has potential.
Multiple NHL insiders with connections have posted an update recently, including Elite Prospects’ Cam Robinson, who said it “sounds like the Rangers and Canucks are very much back at the table.”

He wasn’t the only one. Dan and Chris Powers, co-hosts of theĀ Empty NettersĀ podcast, also posted a similar update.
It feels like the Rangers are up to something. Stay tuned š

While it feels like the Rangers are the clubhouse leaders to land Miller, they’re far from the only team involved in these trade discussions. A handful of teams have been mentioned in trade discussions over the past few days, most notably the Carolina Hurricanes.
The Empty NettersĀ podcast also posted an image of a hurricane, giving legs to the theory that more teams than just the Rangers are still active.

Robinson also posted another update suggesting that there are multiple suitors for Miller who are still engaged in trade talks.
Just remember, people.. nothing is ever done until it's done.
There are a couple of teams heavily in on Miller. One of them *should* get him. But we're dealing with a very fluid situation.

No matter what team he goes to, a Miller trade may be close to going through. It could be today, tomorrow, next week, or sometime just before the deadline, but the American-born forward’s time with the Canucks is starting to feel numbered.
