Canucks Trade Kellan Lain for Will Acton

The Canucks and Oilers swapped a pair of depth centres today.

Will Acton is on his way to the Canucks organization, for Kellan Lain.

Will Acton, son of former NHLer and Blue Jackets assistant coach Keith Acton, is 27-years-old and has played just 33 career NHL games. Acton should provide some depth at the centre position, in case of injury, but will likely start in Utica. He is a capable faceoff man, winning 50% of his draws last season.

Canucks fans may remember Acton for his fight with Ryan Kesler last season:

Lain, 25, suited up for just 9 games with the Canucks last year, the only games of his NHL career. Lain was acquired by Mike Gillis as an unsigned college free agent. At 6’6″ and 210 lbs, Lain has loads of size. The problem for Lain is he doesn’t have loads of speed or skill.

Lain is probably best remembered for getting kicked out of his first NHL game, seconds into his first shift after participating in the infamous line brawl with the Flames last year.
