Is JJ Peterka the right fit for the Vancouver Canucks?
It’s no secret the Canucks are looking to add some offensive scoring pop to their lineup. It was an area of weakness last season, and with Brock Boeser expected to leave in free agency, it’s not a problem that will likely fix itself.
Enter Peterka, a 23-year-old right winger whom the Buffalo Sabres could trade. The native of Munich, Germany, is a restricted free agent and is due a big raise.
Peterka scored a career-high 68 points (27-41-68) last season and had 50 points the year prior.
Sounds like a player the Canucks could use.
“I believe Vancouver’s one of the teams that’s been closely following and has called the Sabres on the JJ Peterka file,” Daily Faceoff’s Frank Seravalli said during an interview with Mike Halford and Jason Brough.
They’re also apparently interested in Bowen Byram, who seems forever linked to the Canucks.
“At varying points, I think they’ve had some interest in what a Bowen Byram deal could look like. So that part has been ongoing.”

With the Stanley Cup now awarded and the NHL Draft set for the end of next week, trade season has officially begun. The Canucks have the 15th overall pick, but many people expect that they’ll trade it for some immediate help.
The Canucks are expected to be busy this offseason, as they look to remodel their team after a season of chaos. Boeser and Pius Suter are their top pending unrestricted free agents, but it’s Quinn Hughes’s future that is on everyone’s minds.
Hughes is eligible to sign a contract extension on July 1, 2026, so the Canucks would be smart to put their best foot forward in the 2025-26 season in an effort to convince him to sign a long-term deal.
