Canucks recall Sven Baertschi

Dec 19 2017, 10:39 pm

The Vancouver Canucks have recalled forward Sven Baertschi from the Utica Comets.

Baertschi has 13 points in 12 games with the Utica Comets since being acquired from the Calgary Flames at the trade deadline last month.

It was expected that Baertschi was going to spend the rest of this year in Utica, and then push for a roster spot next season. However it looks like Jim Benning and Trevor Linden have liked what they have seen from him so far.

Baestchi has quickly found his game again in Utica and is back to looking like the top prospect that the Calgary Flames were excited about. He has made a big impact with the Comets, who have lost just one game in regulation since the trade.

I don’t think the Canucks would recall Baertschi to sit in the press box, so expect him to be in the lineup tomorrow against Winnipeg. It will be interesting to see if the Canucks put him in a top-6 spot with Nick Bonino and Radim Vrbata, or ease him into the lineup on Linden Vey or Bo Horvat’s line.

*Update* It looks like Baertschi will slot into the lineup for Ronalds Kenins

With a playoff spot almost locked up, if I am head coach Willie Desjardins, I put Baertschi in the top-6 and see what you have. Hopefully Baertschi has to confidence to pull off moves like this:

There are a lot of questions to be answered with this recall of Baertschi, but one thing for sure is that the Saturday matinee game against Winnipeg just became a must-watch for Canucks fans.
