Vancouver Canucks plane got stuck in Carolina and they play in Toronto tonight

Nothing seemed to go right for the Vancouver Canucks in their visit to Raleigh to face the Carolina Hurricanes.

The Canucks had an ugly showing versus the ‘Canes last night, falling by a 2-0 final. It marked their fourth-straight loss, three of which they’ve been held to one goal or less. And just when you think things couldn’t possibly get any worse, mother nature decided to chime in.

The Canucks were supposed to leave Raleigh following last night’s game to head to Toronto, as they are set to take on the Maple Leafs tonight. That failed to happen, however, as the team was forced to stay the night in Raleigh due to a snowstorm.

As per Sportsnet’s Elliotte Friedman, they are now in the air headed to Toronto.

According to Google Maps, the flight time from Raleigh to Toronto is just under two hours long.

This couldn’t come at a worse team for the spiraling Canucks, who can’t seem to catch any sort of break right now. They’re set to take on a rested 27-14-2 Leafs team this evening. The skill of the Leafs, paired with the tired Canucks, adds up to a very difficult outing.

Part of the Canucks’ struggles as of late have been due to injury. Last night marked Elias Pettersson’s first game since the holiday break. Meanwhile, Thatcher Demko made his first start since tweaking his back earlier in the month.

They’ve also been without Filip Hronek for well over a month, though the veteran defenceman was recently reassigned to Abbotsford to begin a conditioning stint.

The Canucks don’t have a lot of breathing room right now, as they occupy the final wild-card position in the Western Conference and are just one point ahead of the Calgary Flames. Both the St. Louis Blues and Utah Hockey Club remain very much in the mix as well.

Puck drop in tonight’s game versus the Leafs is set for 4 pm PT.
