Canucks turn to Sedins to end disastrous draft lottery luck

No team has better odds at winning Tuesday’s NHL Draft Lottery than the Vancouver Canucks.

But they’re still going to need a lot of luck to pick first at the draft for the first time in their 56-year history.

That’s because the most likely scenario sees the Canucks picking third (55.7 per cent). Their odds at winning first sit at 25.5 per cent, while they have an 18.8 per cent shot at claiming second.

The draft lottery has been famously cruel to the Canucks in years past. Not only have they never won a draft lottery before, but the Canucks moved down in the order on four consecutive occasions, from 2016 to 2019.

Trevor Linden didn’t bring them any luck when he represented the team. Neither did Jim Benning or Patrik Allvin.

The Canucks are currently without a general manager, so you’d think Jim Rutherford would step in to represent them this year. But you’d be wrong.

Henrik and Daniel Sedin will represent the Canucks at the draft lottery at the NHL Network studios in Secaucus, N.J., per Patrick Johnston of Postmedia.

The Sedins were the centrepiece of the Canucks’ greatest draft day triumph, when GM Brian Burke pulled off multiple trades to get Vancouver to select the Swedish twins with the second and third overall picks in 1999.

Let’s see if Sedin magic extends to lottery balls.
