The Vancouver Canucks cut ties with five players on Monday.
Pierre-Olivier Joseph, Jayden Grubbe, Nils Åman, Danila Klimovich, and Chase Stillman did not receive qualifying offers, the Canucks announced.
The deadline for extending qualifying offers to restricted free agents was at 2 p.m. PDT. Anyone who didn’t receive a qualifying offer becomes an unrestricted free agent and is free to sign with another team on July 1.
Of the five players, Åman saw the most action in a Vancouver uniform, with the Swedish centre appearing in 132 games over four seasons, scoring 29 points (8-21-29).
The only other player to see game action in Vancouver was defenceman Pierre-Olivier Joseph, who suited up in 31 games last season, scoring six points (1-5-6).
Klimovich’s time with the organization ends after five unremarkable seasons with the Abbotsford Canucks. The 2021 second-round pick never scored more than 38 points in an AHL season, doing so in 2024-25.
Stillman appeared in just 24 games with Abbotsford last season, scoring nine points (3-6-9). A first-round pick by the New Jersey Devils in 2021, he was acquired by the Canucks as part of the Arturs Silovs trade with the Pittsburgh Penguins last year.
Grubbe had an even shorter stay in the Canucks’ organization, having just been acquired in March from the Edmonton Oilers in exchange for Josh Bloom. A third-round pick by the New York Rangers in 2021, Grubbe appeared in just two games with Abbotsford, scoring one goal.
It’s been a busy day for new Canucks general manager Ryan Johnson, who also made his first two trades on Monday, trading Nils Höglander to the Nashville Predators and acquiring Brendan Gallagher from the Montreal Canadiens.
