It was the end of an era at Rogers Arena on Saturday night.
When the Toronto Maple Leafs defeated the Vancouver Canucks, 3-2 in a shootout, it was the last we’ve seen of the maroon seats.
After years of discussion, the Canucks finally got to work last offseason, replacing the vast majority of the seats at Rogers Arena. But they ran out of time before completing the project.
While most fans now sit in new, comfy black seats with cupholders, there are still 10 rows of fans at the end of the rink sitting in 1995-vintage seats.
You can say goodbye to them now, finally, as the Canucks get back to work over the Olympic break.
“We are looking forward to replacing the remainder of the maroon seats,” a Canucks spokesperson told Daily Hive on Monday. “Due to the complexity of the system required to replace the telescopic seating in the Zamboni end zone, we needed a break in the schedule to complete the work.
“I can confirm that installation of the final seats is now underway, with completion expected prior to our Feb. 25 game against Winnipeg.”

With NHL players returning to the Winter Olympics for the first time in 12 years, the Canucks have 24 consecutive days without a game at their home rink. The Canucks play their first game after the Olympic break at home on Feb. 25.
Surely, that’s enough time to finish the job, although they might have to work around other events scheduled at Rogers Arena. The Vancouver Warriors have two home games scheduled (Feb. 7 and 20), while concerts are set for Ghost on Feb. 14 and Cardi B on Feb. 21.
