Canucks recall Linden Vey from Utica

Dec 20 2017, 3:13 am

Linden Vey is on his way back to the NHL.

The 24-year-old centre was a surprise preseason cut in October, after he was outplayed by Jared McCann and Adam Cracknell. Vey is second on the Utica Comets in scoring, with 15 points (3-12-15) in 26 games so far this season.

Vey, who was acquired by GM Jim Benning at the 2014 Draft, was brought in to be the Canucks’ third line centre. He struggled in his first season in Vancouver and was surpassed by Bo Horvat on the depth chart. He finished with 24 points (10-14-24) in 75 games, his first full season in the NHL.

With Henrik Sedin out of the lineup with an apparent injury, the door is open for Vey to prove himself once again. Youngsters Horvat and Jared McCann are both struggling, so Vey should have a real chance to take the ball and run with it. We’ll see what he can do.
