Canucks recall Kenins and Pedan

The Vancouver Canucks have recalled winger Ronalds Kenins and defenceman Andrey Pedan from the Utica Comets. Both players will meet the team in Chicago for Sunday’s game against the Blackhawks.

The Canucks have been hit pretty hard with the injury bug of late. Dan Hamhuis was struck in the face with a hard Dan Boyle slap shot on Wednesday, while Luca Sbisa is still injured and did not practice on Saturday.

On forward, the Canucks are still without Brandon Sutter, and Jake Virtanen is in Utica on a conditioning stint. Derek Dorsett was absent from Saturday’s practice, as he flew home to Saskatchewan for personal reasons.

If Dorsett can play, it’s likely that neither Kenins or Pedan will dress for Sunday’s game.

Kenins, 24, has played in two games with the Canucks this year and eight games for the Comets, registering an assist (0-1-1) and eight penalty minutes. Kenins appeared in 30 games with the Canucks last season, registering 12 points (4-8-12) and 8 penalty minutes.

Pedan, 22, has appeared in 19 games with Utica this season, where he currently sits tied for second among Comets defencemen in scoring with 9 points (2-7-9). He appeared in one game for the Canucks, playing as a winger. During the 2014-15 season, Pedan appeared in 42 games with the Comets registering 14 points (3-11-14) and 70 penalty minutes.
