Canucks recall Alexandre Grenier from Utica

Dec 20 2017, 3:27 am

The Vancouver Canucks announced this morning that they have recalled forward Alexandre Grenier from the Utica Comets.

The Laval, Quebec native has appeared in 33 games for Utica this season, where he scored 6 goals and 13 assists. This is Grenier’s second recall this season after being recalled in mid-November where he made his NHL debut against Winnipeg on November 18. The former third round pick is being called up as Brandon Prust suffered an injury in Friday’s game against Anaheim:

No information has been provided about the severity of Prust’s injury, but he was at the Canucks optional skate this morning.

The Canucks are slowly getting bodies back from injury with Sven Baertschi and Brandon Sutter taking the ice before practice today. I would expect Grenier to play tonight against Arizona, but he may be on his way back to Utica within a couple of games, which is unfortunate as he’s a good skater, skilled with the puck, and doesn’t shy away from taking a hit to make a play. Hopefully he can show up and play well and be an option later in the season, as it would be nice to see him make plays like he has been doing in Utica.
