Canucks prospect Hunter Shinkaruk named to AHL All-Star game

Vancouver Canucks prospect Hunter Shinkaruk will participate in the 2016 AHL All-Star Classic on January 31 and February 1 in Syracuse, N.Y.

This will be Hunter Shinkaruk’s first appearance at the AHL All-Star game in just his second season as a professional. Shinkaruk currently leads the Utica Comets in goals (13), power-play goals (7) and points (25).

The 24th overall pick in the 2013 NHL Entry Level Draft had a rough first professional season last year after recovering from hip surgery the previous summer. But for this season, he was able to have a full summer of training and has hit the ground running. He has posted a hat-trick in two separate games and in another game posted 4 points. Shinkaruk made his NHL debut earlier this season in Montreal.

Shinkaruk has been dominant for the Comets this year, and the All-Star appearance is well deserved. Hopefully he can continue to build on his great first half and force the Canucks to recall him for another ‘cup of coffee’ in the NHL.
