A day before the NHL’s trade deadline, the Vancouver Canucks have placed centre Adam Cracknell on waivers.
Cracknell is part of the famed “garage sale 7” so we can safely assume that there were no takers for the useful fourth-line utility forward.
Placing Cracknell on waivers at this point may seem like a bit of a curious move – he has two goals in his last two games – but Sportsnet’s Dan Murphy has a theory.
I wonder if #Canucks are just papering Cracknell so he's avail for AHL playoffs. My belief is he in tonight versus #sharks.

Cracknell was in the fourth line centre spot at practice yesterday, so Murph’s theory makes a lot of sense.

In order to be eligible for the AHL playoffs, players in Cracknell’s situation need to pass through waivers before the NHL trade deadline (Monday at noon). Cracknell has spent the entire season in the NHL, and consequently he hasn’t been exposed on waivers.
