The Vancouver Canucks know what time it is.
It’s been a much better start to the season than initially expected for the Canucks. This was expected to be a painful year for Vancouver, which has finally embarked on a scorched-earth rebuild, but they’ve found a way to win two of their first three games to kick off the season.
Saturday night’s 4-1 victory over the Calgary Flames was a gutsy effort that saw Vancouver score four unanswered goals in the third period to put away their division rivals. After the game, the team revealed a new post-win tradition that is inspired by one of the most iconic rappers in the business: Flavor Flav.
Veteran Brock Boeser had the honours of handing out an oversized Canucks themed bedazlled clock necklace to Liam Öhgren, who notched a goal and assist in the victory.
“A bedazzled clock with a chain starting at 7 a.m., not 7 p.m.,” Boeser addressed the team. “The first one is going to Ohgy, got us going.”
"Start at 7 AM not 7 PM."

The new post-game ritual is a departure from the previous one, started midway through last season, that involved the player of the game receiving a battle axe. That was inspired by first responders in the city, while this one is taking on a less serious meaning with its connection to Flavor Flav.
A neat detail with the clock is that the time is set to 7 a.m. rather than game time, which symbolizes that the team’s hard work begins at the start of the day, rather than the start of the game.
Öhgren had a short message to his team after donning the clock for the first time.
“Great win, boys,” Öhgren said. “Get some rest and get at it tomorrow.”

The hope is that the new ritual will become commonplace around the Canucks locker room. While the team isn’t expected to compete for a playoff spot this season, they’ve managed to look a lot better than expected to start the year.
Could Vancouver wind up being one of the most surprising teams of the season?
