He’s the newest dad on the Vancouver Canucks.
Goaltender Kevin Lankinen and his wife, Iina, just announced on Instagram that they’ve welcomed their first child, a baby boy, into the world.
Lankinen was absent for a couple of days during the Canucks’ preseason, as his wife gave birth to their baby boy on Sept. 24.
The Finnish netminder returned two days after the birth of his son, backstopping the Canucks to a 4-2 preseason victory over the Seattle Kraken.
He was asked after returning to the lineup if he had some newfound dad energy.
“One-hundred per cent,” Lankinen said. “It’s the best thing in the world. I’m so proud of my wife, how she handled it all.”
“It’s been quite a week at home, just learning and adapting and getting to know the little guy, but I couldn’t be happier.”
In his latest Instagram announcement, Lankinen gave another nod to his “rockstar” wife.

“Endless amount of love and respect for my rockstar [Iina Lankinen]. Could not ask for a better mom for our little one.”
Lankinen is the second Canucks goalie to welcome a child in 2025. Back in May, Thatcher Demko and his wife, Lexie, welcomed a baby girl, their second child.
The Canucks goalie joins a growing list of dads on the team. Aside from Lankinen and Demko, Tyler Myers, Evander Kane, Marcus Pettersson and Conor Garland also have children.
